Top Five for 2014

It's been three and a half years since I started this blog and things are definitely winding down.  Though I still enjoy posting photos (mostly for family members who aren't on Facebook),  I've been using my iPhone most of the time.  I have to say I'm a little intimidated by the new Nikon D610 I bought in June and am hoping to spend some quality time with it in the new year.  As the old year winds down,  I thought I'd share the top five posts of 2014, based on the number of views received.

Number Five:


The Nova Scotia Road Trip gets the number five spot.  I had a lovely visit with my Dad and toured the Cabot trail.  I also had a very nice, though short visit with my Mom's siblings and my Aunt Norma.

Number Four:


Come Fly with Me is next up.  My first helicopter ride was extraordinary as my hubby and I flew over the island of Kauai, taking our time around the Na Pali Coast.


Number Three:

Our weekend on Salt Spring to attend the wedding of hubby's niece was a very special weekend and made number three.





Number Two:
First runner up was another happy event as Tony Bennett celebrated his 88th birthday with a concert at Mission Hill winery.

Number One!


And the winner is Ellipsis for Nicole.  I think the high number of visits is due to the students at UBC Okanagan and their families who may have checked out the photos I took of the 2014 class's graduation show.

On Tuesday, my daughter received her diploma from the University of British Columbia. On Wednesday I was moving documents to my new computer when I stumbled upon a verse I'd copied from a card my mom gave Nicole when she graduated from high school.  I thought I'd post it today along with some photos of my Mom.  Today, is the fourth anniversary of her passing. Bless Us Every One

Yesterday I received an early Christmas gift in the form of a humbling experience.   As I walked out the door of a downtown card shop, a person walked past dressed in a rather outlandish outfit.    A pair of cut-off lycra shorts were pulled over a pair of shiny taupe tights.    They wore a rainbow wig whose luscious waves tumbled hallway down the back of a red hoodie.   Atop the wig they sported a pair of short white bunny ears.   A blue suede purse rested on one hip and three large but flat Christmas gift bags dangled from the opposite arm.   A bouquet of festive mylar balloons tied with red curling ribbon and covered in Christmas cookies and holiday wishes floated above them.   I followed behind snapping a photo and rationalizing the invasion by the fact you couldn’t see their face.   We met up at the corner and while we waited for some cars to pass I remembered today’s Random Act of Kindness.   “Start-up a friendly chat”. “Are you Santa’s Christmas bunny?”   I asked

My Favourite Childhood Christmas Book

Every Christmas, for as long as I can remember my heart has been touched by  The Wonderful Window by Beth Vardon,  illustrated by Charlot Byj.    I believe it was written in the 50's and I would likely have received it for Christmas sometime in the 60's.  It's no longer in print so I hope I'm not violating any copyright laws by sharing it with you.    As soon as the patchwork was tacked into place The angel came in with a smile on his face. And both he and Katie got down on their knees, Praying: Lord, could you spare one small miracle -- please? That night, all the people who happened to pass  Saw a wonderful window of glistening glass! And the light from the candles was shining inside  On the angel and Katie -- both beaming with pride. (Just take a look now, while the happy choir sings...You'll see -- even Katie --- has almost got wings!)
