To Blog or Not To Blog

Image
I'm trying to decide whether or not to continue posting my photos on Blogger or not.  This weekend I spent some time culling over 400 photos I took on September 23rd.  The Fall Equinox is a day I try to set aside to indulge my little hobby.  I've lucked out with the weather the past few years and this past Wednesday was no exception.  I decided to post my photos on Flickr this year.  It seems a bit safer than Blogger and Facebook. If you have other information, let me know.  In the meantime, here's one photo, and you can click here to get to my album on Flickr.

Fall Equinox in Kelowna

I rose early this morning to photograph the sunrise. After a trip home for breakfast and coffee I did my Saturday morning errands, stopping to take a photo as the spirit moved me.

I Bet You Weren't Expecting That..

You probably weren't thinking the photo I would post for the first day on Margarita would be the kitchen in the villa we are renting.  I didn't think it would be either, but by the time we landed mid afternoon, got our luggage, found our driver who spoke neither English nor Spanish and was holding a sign that said "Yong", drove to the villa and met the property manager who took us to change some money and then took us to a small grocery store to pick up a few things to get us through until we got our car rental the next day, it was too dark to take any photos outside.  When you're eight degrees north of the equator, it's pretty much sunrise at 6 a.m. and sunset at 6 p.m.   No disrespect meant to the kitchen...I think it's awesome!

The Long Day Is Over....

Image
Took this photo from the bow of the ferry as we pulled out of Fulford Harbour to begin a long day of travel. Didn't make the connecting ferry at 9:00 from Swartz Bay and there was no 10:00. We were back on the mainland by 12:30.  Luckily the drive through the mountains was exceptional for the time of year, with a bit of slush at the Coquihalla Summit , but no snow to speak of on the Highway for the rest of the drive.  It was pretty much a dry road from Merritt and we made it home at last, around 6:00.  Can't wait to rest my head in my own little bed.

Rising With The Sun

Image
There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope. - Bern Williams Sunrise bathed the deck in a warm pink glow this morning and I scrambled for my camera to capture it.  Here on the east side of the lake, it's often hard to catch the break of day.  I live down in the flats surrounded by hills, houses and trees, so there's not much horizon.  I'm often up before the dawn and it seems like the conditions necessary for a colourful sunrise aren't present very often.  Yet there are rare occasions, such as this morning, when for a brief moment you are treated to something quite lovely.

Endings and Beginnings

Image
Taha'a sunrise  March 8, 2011 6:13 a.m.*  To me the morning sunrise represents renewal and hope. Each day begins with a blank slate and an infinite number of possibilities.  We can't choose what the day will bring, but we can choose how we will deal with the adventures and challenges that come our way.  This morning I'm thinking about two people who recently gave me advice on how to approach these challenges - one person I've never met, the other I've known since birth. I'm thinking of the last words of Jack Layton, who will be laid to rest today: "My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear.  Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world." I'm thinking of the similar words from my mother whose ashes were interred at the gravesite of her parents in Saint John this past Thursday morning.  Her last message to us was a bible verse from Corinthians...
