Pocketful of Memory Cards

I'm trying to decide whether or not to continue posting my photos on Blogger or not.  This weekend I spent some time culling over 400 photos I took on September 23rd.  The Fall Equinox is a day I try to set aside to indulge my little hobby.  I've lucked out with the weather the past few years and this past Wednesday was no exception.  I decided to post my photos on Flickr this year.  It seems a bit safer than Blogger and Facebook. I was driving down Abbott Street Saturday and decided to avoid Pandosy Village, via Walnut Street. As I approached the stop sign at Watt Road, a profusion of morning glories caught my eye.  I thought about stopping for a photo but there was a line of cars parked in front of them. I thought about coming back Sunday morning, but on impulse I decided to take a page from Reg's book:  The time to do the thing is now; you never know what the future will bring.  I snapped a quick couple of photos with my smart phone, thinking I might come back the next day with the 'good' camera.  The more photos I took, the more photos I was compelled to take.  The gardens that surround the Palisade Apartments at the corner of Walnut and Watt are stunning.  One hundred and forty three photos later....  thought I'd share a few.  I love this one where it looks like the Dahlia is saying "shhhhh...

On a  lunchtime walk a couple of weeks ago, my friend Janet and I were inspired to bring our cameras along next time. Next time was two days ago and here are my results.   I used a lens that my husband bought recently, so I'm really in the learning stages of what I can do with it.  It's a 24mm 1:2.8 Nikon and though it was a bit frustrating not being able to zoom in, I really love the crispness of the photos with this lens.  Janet used her iPhone and got some really cool shots that you can see if you're her Facebook friend.  Having an Artist's Date with a fellow artist was a great idea. Though I didn't copy her shots, it was really inspiring to see our surroundings through someone else's eyes and the next time I'm out taking photos I'll be feeling her influence. Near the end of Brandt's Creek Linear Park I have no idea what those colourful blobs are. It's the only photo with them.  Most likely the effect of light and moistur...

Shortly after I moved to Kelowna I was lucky enough to become part of a group of four like-minded women who decided to meet weekly and work their way through a book by Julia Cameron called The Artist's Way .  This book and these women changed my life and got me in touch with a creative part of myself that had been dormant for many years.    Two of the basic tool s Cameron employs are daily Morning Pages and a weekly Artist's Date.  Weekly would be in an ideal world.  Even a semi-retired bum like myself has responsibilities that create challenges for a weekly indulgence such as this.   I do it when I can, and today I could.  I took myself and my camera on an Artist's Date at  Benvoulin Heritage Church .  Above is my favourite shot of the day.
