Yesterday morning we took the dogs up to the summit of Black Knight Mountain, described in this link as a moderate 11.5 km hike on a gravel road.  The description is slightly dated as we discovered the first part of the hike  was paved not too long ago - I'm thinking during the last roadwork season.  I would have said our last time taking this hike was two summers ago.  When I did a search of this blog I learned it was in the Fall of 2011.  On that day, due to concerns about the setting sun we didn't make it to the top but promised we'd return soon. My how time flies.  I was shocked to realize it's taken almost four years to get back.  I'm very pleased to report that today we did the return trip in three hours.  The photos included here were taken by my hubby with his Panasonic DMC-G2. I posted this as my Facebook cover photo the other day cause there's something I really like about it so I thought I'd share it with you.  I don't know what it is that's so appealing.  I'm not a big lover of cattle (medium rare please!) but there was something so very compelling about this little herd that moved ahead of us along the first leg of our Black Knight Mountain hike a couple of Sundays back. This guy scares me a little, kind of like Health Ledger's Joker in that Batman movie. I love how they all have the same expression on their faces.  This guy is my fave with his horns that point sideways.  What purpose would that serve?

Have you noticed this houseboat parked in a field on Benvoulin Road ? I've been meaning take a picture of it but I'd been procrastinating until my friend Abby left me a message on the weekend, saying it had caught her attention too.  I drive past here almost daily and after a failed attempt yesterday, when I got distracted by some geese , I finally took few photographs this morning.  So many questions....  Have you any answers?

At 2:00 this afternoon, my husband and I and our two dogs set out to conquer The Sleeping Lady , as we are now calling her.  I'd done some research online and discovered that it was an 11.5 km hike that would take three hours and would bring us up to the highest part of the mountain, where there are several communication towers. (I like to imagine she's having a little acupuncture on her shoulder).   It was hard to tell from the website whether it was an 11.5 km hike up to the top or if that was the length of a round trip.  We set out with the goal of hiking for an hour and half and deciding how far we would go from there.  I was surprised to discover we had to go around the back of the mountain.  It wasn't too steep, except for the stretch past these cows, and there were some beautiful views when you turned to look back down the valley at the lake. On September 30th,  I posted a photo of Black Knight Mountain, known only to me I think, as The Lady of the Mountain .  It was a back-lit photo, so the image might not have been as clear to those of you who don't look at it everyday and automatically see what I see.  I thought I'd give you a better look today and post this shot that was taken in the early afternoon. The lady lies on her side the highest point being her shoulder. If you follow the line down her arm and move into the foreground, you'll reach her elbow.  In this shot, on the right I can really see the definition of her head, her chin in particular and I can see her hair flowing down off her brow, to the right. I'm thinking you'll see it a little better now...or maybe it's just my active imagine and the influence of growing up in Sioux Lookout , not too far from The Sleeping Giant in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

One of things I love about Kelowna is the feeling I get when I look to the horizon and see that I'm surrounded by mountains.  Now if you live in Banff, Alberta or Aspen, Colorado you might argue that these are more like foothills, but Black Knight Mountain , pictured here, has an elevation of 4,205 feet, so it's nothing to sneeze at in my opinion.  Though it's called Black Knight Mountain, and has also been described as looking like whale (?), I see a woman lying on her side when I look to East Kelowna.  The very top curve is her shoulder and if you follow it down to the left in the foreground, you can see where her elbow bends and her forearm runs in front of her chest.  Her head lies on it's side and you can imagine long hair splayed forward making the gentle curve that reaches the bottom of the mountain to the right.  It looks to me like she's covered by a blanket and the curve of her hip makes the rise on the left side.    She's a comfortin...
