The Market at Kona's Kailua Town

Image
Once each month, vendors and artisans in Kailua Town close off the north end of Ali'i Drive and turn it into a Sunday Market.  I believe it's the first Sunday after the full moon.  Or maybe that was something else....  As luck would have it we were there for the March market and enjoyed the sights, sounds and shaved ice.  Here's a few snapshots of the afternoon. I'm not sure what kind of trees these are but they are all over the big island. I always think of the final scene of Go. Dog Go! when I see them.  It looks just like the tree they party in at the end. Go dog, go!  As far away as possible from the evil people who did this to you!

Along Ali'i

Both kids had arrived in Kona, by 10:00 p.m. Friday night.  The first thing hubby wanted to do Saturday morning was to take the kids for their first scuba experience.  I chose to forgo it and spent the morning wandering along the south end of the very colourful Ali'i Drive, just steps from our rental. I walked about a mile and half before I turned around and headed back, drenched is sweat, but thoroughly enjoying the scenery. Here are some morning highlights  Breakfast at Tiffany's The kids get their first scuba lesson.  The bumble bees are entirely black, no fuzzy yellow stripes. Surfers off Kahalu'u Beach ...oops!  Can't decide if you want to surf or stand up paddle board?  Do both! Surfers and boogie boarders at La'Aloa Bay Beach Park:
